History

Optimization Alternatives was founded in 1986 to provide operations expertise and solutions to leading companies in the transportation and manufacturing industries. With a strong focus on delivering hard-dollar savings. As OA's roster of satisfied clients grew, OA was asked to address larger and more complex problem areas.

In the 1990's, OA worked with the largest railroads in North America to address the complexity and costs associated with their rapidly growing intermodal operations. The results of these efforts was a comprehensive intermodal control system called OASIS that is currently in use at more than 120 sites around the world, and controls more than $10B in annual commerce.

As the transportation services industry grew in size, scope and complexity, OA's customers asked for tools to manage their businesses dynamically. To address these needs, OA developed Vantage, an operations execution solution that enables real-time, exception-based management of complex operations. Vantage is built upon patent-pending technology that has been proven for years in rugged intermodal ramps that require 24x7 uptime and support. Vantage is currently monitoring operations at some of the world's largest container shipping lines and busiest marine terminals.

In February, 2008, Optimization Alternatives became a wholly owned subsidiary of RMI. RMI is the largest independent provider of accurate, reliable, comprehensive and secure rail information services to the transportation industry. RMI was founded in 1979 and is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. Its Software as a Service business model (SaaS) gives Class 1, regional and shortline railroads, and other transportation businesses reliable, comprehensive data and timely, critical analysis to help run their operations more efficiently. Currently, RMI processes approximately eight million carloads annually for railroads, rail shippers and railcar owners. RMI's services include transportation management, interline revenue accounting, car hire settlement, fleet management services, and related executive information systems.
